Struggling with my weight, food, exercise, it’s hot, clothes don’t fit, gotta put on a swimsuit, can’t get to the gym, when I get to the gym I’m already exhausted….
All of this chatter in your head, is very real.
And there’s a name for it.
This comes from an excellent book by Steven Pressfield, called Do The Work.
The book is focused mostly on artists and creative types And business builders.
And there’s a woo-woo element in the book. But don’t allow that to cause you to dismiss the important principles.
And most important is the principles can be applied to your weight loss and fitness goals too.
For example : You know you need to lose 20-30 even 50lbs or more…
You KNOW you need to lose it, you KNOW exactly what to do to lose it(the information is abundant and free all over the internet, even on my blog)
But the chatter you hear in your head, the negative self talk…
It will be hard.
I’ll be sore
I’ll feel disgusting.
People will laugh at me.
I’ll never be able to eat anything I like again.
There’s that show I watch every Wednesday night.
And on and on and on.
THIS is resistance.
And it’s universal to every person on earth attempting a great thing.
And there’s only one way to beat this resistance and get the thing you want.
And Pressfield is very clear to the ONLY way to beat resistance is he say’s….
“START BEFORE YOU”RE READY
Remember, our enemy is not lack of preparation; it’s not the difficulty of the project or the state of the marketplace or the emptiness of our bank account.
The enemy is Resistance.
The enemy is our chattering brain, which, if we give it so much as a nanosecond,will start producing excuses, alibis, transparent self- justifications, and a million reasons we can’t/shouldn’t/won’t do what we need to do.
Start before you’re ready.
Good things happen when we start before we’re ready. For one thing, we show huevos. Our blood heats up. Courage begets more courage.The gods, witnessing our boldness, look on in approval.
