Dave asked me to introduce myself to you all, and let you know that there’s a new female Coach at The Body Firm.
My name is Marilyn Horton, and I have been a Personal Trainer since 2005. Over that time I’ve worked with every age and stage of life from youth to the elderly, helped keep women strong through pregnancies and guide them through losing the post-baby weight, helped people lose massive amounts of weight and reshape otherwise shapeless bodies.
In this time, my passion has been to work with the Over-40 population, as I have found this to be the phase of life when people generally forget to think about their own health and well-being because they’re so busy taking care of others. Dave often refers to this as “The Perfect Storm” – That time when you are taking care of kids while also caring for an aging parent, when your spouse gets sick or your family goes through a particularly stressful time of life. During that perfect storm of circumstances, the stress takes over and we often lose our own health in the wake. Weight gain, loss of muscle, fatigue, joint pain, depression, and a whole list of other symptoms are the result of phases like this.
The scary part is that this perfect storm is also a silent killer. If the habits (or LOSS of good habits) that get you through the storm in survival mode continue, those bad habits or lack of healthy habits will take you down. When that happens, you won’t be able to take care of your loved ones anymore, or play with your kids or grandkids, or celebrate big occasions with your loved ones.
When the bad habits take over the healthy, you are left with a quality of life that feeds on itself in a downward spiral; it includes prohibitively expensive medications, doctors visits, and hospital stays, special wheelchairs, walkers, and beds, in home or facility nursing care.
That is NOT the quality of life I hope for anyone, particularly anyone who cares enough for their own health to be on THIS emailing list!
