Sometimes you have to say NO.
First I’ll tell you I’m not a food Nazi. That’s not healthy either and those people are hard to be around. I say you have to pick your battles. If lunch isn’t a tossed organic salad with light seasoning and you’re going after the Lean Cuisine for speed and convenience-who cares. Pick your battles.
Some times though this getting lean process does come down to the dreaded “D” and “E” words. Discipline and Elimination.
You do at some points along the road have to use pure discipline to avoid the behaviors and eliminate foods that are going to hold you back from your goals.
There are some foods that will stop your progress in its tracks. And those foods have to go.
If your goals is to get lean fast these must be eliminated from your diet.
#1 Ice Cream-
I’m sure a few people will be mad at me to see their beloved ice cream as number one on the hit list of foods that turn to fat, but here gows. Ice cream is Bad news with a capitol B! Ice cream is loaded with fat(super high in fat), sugar, and way more calories than you need: and evil fat-storing triad! Not to mention the artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, emulsifiers and stabilizers.
There are so many delicious alternatives to ice cream like frozen sorbet or even sugar free low fat frozen yogurt. It boggles the mind that a person going for fat loss wouldn’t make the switch.
#2Fried Foods-
All fried foods are really BAD NEWS! (With all capitols) Fried foods are harmful in more ways than one. First they are high in calories and mostly fat. Take a McDonalds fries, for example. polish off a regular frie and you’ve got yuorself 610 calories and 29 grams of fat, Burger King Browns(fries)-390 calories and 25 grams of fat. KFC fried chicken breast-one serving alone sets you back 470 calories and 25 grams of belly building fat.
Here’s the good news. When you’ve cleaned up your diet after just one or two weeks you literally can;t eat fried foods, They just don’t sit well once you’ve started eating well.
#3 Doughnuts and Pastries-
Like ice cream doughnuts are one of the all time no-no’s when body fat reduction and good health are your goals. Doughnuts contain the king of fat storing combinations: refined sugar and saturated fats.
Average sized donuts today are between 180-420 calories and 22 grams of fat each depending on size.
The flour in donuts are white flour stripped of all nutritional value. Heaps of sugar added in. Deep fried! and they also contain enough chemical agents designed to keep them soft and, mono and diglyceerides, propylene, glycol mono and diesters, coloring agents including FD&C yellow, number 5 and preservatives BHT and BHA-My recommendation is don’t put all that crap in your body.
#4 White sugar, Candy, Chocolate and sweets
One of the biggest misconceptions is carbohydrates make you fat. This is incorrect. The correct statement is refined carbohydarates make you fat…and that means sugar, candy, and sweets. Too many of anything will make you fat this is true. But refined carbs are incredibly calorie dense making it extremely easy for you to take in too many calories.
Here’s the thing too. Right now there’s some pretty heavy hitters in the nutrition research field starting to make some noise about white sugar being toxic. I don’t mean just fattening. I mean eating lead paint chips toxic. the jury is still out and a lot of money of course is involved so it could be a while.
If you could change only one thing today to your eating habits today…that is to reduce your sugar intake….the difference in your health, energy levels ajd body composition would absolutely blow your mind. get the sugar out!
#5 Soft Drinks (Yes , “Diet” too)
When I take on a new client the first two things that must be eliminated are what I call the “Big Rocks”. Fast food is #1 and Soft drinks are #2. Just getting eliminating these two food and calorie bombs will get in the mirror and on the scale dramatic results. Every time.
Regular soft drinks are mostly water, but the asmount of sucrose(sugar) and high fructose corn syrup(more sugar) used to sweeten regular soda is more than enough to do major damage. Average calories count is around 200 and you just need to add that up over one a day per week=1400 extra calories and per month=6000 extra calories.
There’s not enough room here to cover why diet soft drinks(Diet Coke! I’m talking to you) will do you absolutely no good in your pursuit of a smaller body and longer healthier life. I will tell you although Diet drinks have 0 calories. research has shown the sweetness of these 0 calorie drinks cause you to over eat.
And the most common sweetener used Aspartame has been proven to cause Cancer, so proceed with caution.
#6 Fast Food
Like I said earlier this is one of the two “Big Rocks”(soft drinks is the other) that must be eliminated for you to see results. And I don’t mean to accelerate your results. I mean if you’re eating fast food daily. You won’t see results. Or they’ll come so slow you’ll quit.
Fat food is high in calories, high in chemicals, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar and butter. Low in nutrition. This is a bad balance and must be eliminated from your daily regimen to get results.
If you’re stuck in a fast food joint the salad and chicken sandwich wherever you are is a safe bet. Throw away the bun and expect the chicken to be high in sodium but it’s the best among bad choices. Almost all fast food places are offering a salad of some type nowadays so go with that. You’ll be glad you did when you step on the scale.
Sure this can be painful to eliminate foods you’ve grown to love over the years. And the operative word here is “grown”. The more you eat them the bigger you grow.
Remember you can have any and all of these foods once a week during your cheat meal.
Use the “D” word and discipline yourself long enough to avoid them and find some supportive food to take their place.
In the next few days we’ll talk about the best foods for fat loss and how to get them into your diet.
Talk soon.
