In the beginning whether you’re a lifetime exerciser or you’ve never stepped foot in the gym before.
There are some universal laws that have to be addressed when it comes down to getting in shape.
Most people aren’t aware of them which is one of the reasons most people really struggle to start.
And even more importantly to stay on track.
So lets get down to the Laws of getting in shape.
1) Know What You Want
(It’s the What)
The more clarity you have on what you want your outcome to be the faster you can get there.
WHAT do you really want to accomplish?
Having the end goal in mind FROM THE BEGINNING is like giving your GPS a destination.
And all kinds of smart people miss this and waste time wandering around not moving toward their goal.
If your goal is to lose 30 pounds in 6 months you’re map or plan is going to look a lot different than the one for the girl who has 5lbs to lose and wants to complete her first half-marathon.
KNOW your goal.
Everything else diet, exercises, frequency, who you’re around is built out from that.
2) Don’t Screw Around
(It’s the How)
If you’re going to get in shape
Get in shape.
The HOW you approach it will decide your success or failure.
It’s much more effective and satisfying to go 100% all in than to dabble.
Dabbling produces frustration, cognitive dissonance, and confusion.
A good example is the difference between “I’m going to eat healthier in the new year” and kind of sort of doing it but if that cookie is convenient I’m going to eat it, commitment.
This is will deliver NO results because you’re screwing around.
Contrast that with a I’m not screwing around “I’m committing to WHOLE30 for 30 days come hell or high water.”
Then you get on the scale.
You clean out your kitchen.
You buy everything you need to eat that week.
You drag your neighbor into it with you.
You bear down and there’s NO screwing around.
THIS approach produces results.
It’ hard but it’s not nearly as hard as dabbling and not getting results because you were screwing around.
3) Hang Out With Winners
(It’s the Who)
You’re going to have to get yourself some support.
The WHO you’re around is going to make or break you.
Every piece of research out there and our own finding say the MORE support you have from
a training partner
a workout group
a coach
a friend
family members
co-workers
extended family
Facebook groups
even online support groups and forums
The FASTER and easier your results will be.
And if weight loss is your goal, your chances of keeping it off forever increases with more support.
A solid goal, a plan, an experienced coach and a good training partner will make you nearly bullet proof when it comes to reaching your goals.
Remember it’s not about the jumping jacks or eating salads.
