Fort Worth Personal Trainers: Why The “WHO” Matters MOST
One of the most common things I hear in my office with new clients is….
“I’ve tried to do this on my own so many times I’ve lost count, and it NEVER works.
I need some help.“
And there’s sort of this tone of shame, like you’re supposed to do this life changing act with NO SUPPORT AT ALL, and some how be miraculously successful.
And if you were successful it would truly be a miracle.
Because.
YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN!
What of any importance have you or anyoneelse ever accomplished on their own.
You are raised by your parents and siblings.
You go to school with other people that are like you for 12-20 years.
You work with other people with a boss, and or teams, or mentors guiding you.
When you want to learn something you join a group or class of like minded people led by an expert in the thing you want to learn and accomplish.
Why would anyone think building an exercise habit and changing for the better the very way they eat every day would be successful without support?
Well most people ARE NOT successfulwithout support.
In fact having the support in placeis the glue that holds ALL OF THE REST of your program together.
I pulled a quote from Steven Pressfield’s book “Turning Pro” to illustrate this point.
The book is about pursuing your passion.
And if your passion happens to be transforming your body, you’ll be able to relate.
The people you associate with and the thoughts you allow into your head will be far more important to your success than deciding should you do 3 sets of 5 or 4 sets of 10.
From Turning Pro….
“Turning Pro changes how we spend our time and with whom we spend it…It changes how people perceive us. Those who are still fleeing from their own fears will now try to sabotage us.
They will tell us we’ve changed and try to undermine our efforts at further change. They will attempt to make us feel guilty for these changes. They will try to entice us to waste time with them as we’ve done in the past, and when we refuse, they will turn against us and talk us down behind our backs.
At the same time, new people will appear in our lives. They will be people who are facing their own fears and who are conquering them. These people will become our new friends.”
We will have to choose between the life we want for our future and the life we have left behind.”
-Steven Pressfield
If you’re struggling to make the changes you want.
Take a good hard look at the “who” you are around.
If you’re not getting the support you need, you may have to limit the time around those people.
And find some people that share your goals and desires.
It always helps to surround yourself with like-minded people, who share your goals.
You need to be inspired.
And in time….
You’ll inspire others with your progress and story.
THIS is how it works.
