Looking at a list simple effective training tips from a coach I really admire, one caught my eye.
#12 Never Take Time Off From Training
And I realized this is one of the most common mistakes good people make.
I’ve lost count of the number of clients and nonclients who have told me..
“I’m going to just take a break from training”
This never, never, never, never goes well.
Without fail there’s failure and regret.
-I’ll run into them 6 months later and they’ve but on 20 or 30 pounds
-They’ll call a year later saying “yeah, I tried to stick with it for a little while, then I quit and I’ve packed on some weight.”
or even in the best circumstance
-They’ll get back with me after that long lay-off and it’s a 12 week “forced march’ to getting them even close to the shape they were in
And ALL of this could be avoided with Rule #12
#12 Never Take Time Off From Training
This doesn’t mean you have to lift weights every day, or run 100 miles a week…
It means “a little something every day”
My BEST client that I see win long term mix it up.
They do some Spin/Zyn22
or some Hot Yoga
or train up for a mud run
or a 5k or a 1/2 Marathon
or do a 3 day Walk
These are the people you see and admire for their longevity and condition.
Their success is not an accident. It comes from resisting the urge to “just take some time off” and to do SOMETHING physically active nearly everyday over time.
You can apply this too.
I’ve noticed the people that stay the MOST consistent not only have a couple of activities they like best but they also have…
1) a Coach or Training Partner
and/or
2) a Group of People that they work out with
Because the biggest influence on you is the people you’re around.
I’m not saying you can’t stay consistent on your own.
I’m telling you it’s easier when you have like minded people to enjoy it with.
Good luck and stick with it.
The rewards far outstrip the sacrifice.
