I get asked a lot what my take on different dieting programs is. I’ll tell you in my opinion Weight Watchers is the best program on the market today. And it’s not because of the points system either.
Weight Watchers is a support group disguised as a weight loss program.(Accelerator Small Group anyone?!) And it works because getting the support you need from different sources is critical to your success
Weight Watchers teaches you how to eat. And like with anything you learn or adapt as habit. It happens through repetitions of the behavior over time. And you need support to make it long enough to instill the habit.
There are three elements that go toward achieving any goal: Habits, Choices, and Support.
You get a chance to eat real food in the real world with the normal stressors pulling at you. All the while continuing on the path to habit changes that yield results in your weight loss.
Risto Moisio and Mariam Beruchashvilli studied Weight Watchers for The Journal of Consumer Research. They wrote “Pursuing weight loss is an immensly daunting project fraught with many troubles, whether psychological, social, or physical”
A lot of people stress eat to relive anxiety and for comfort. Weight Watchers members provide each other with a support system that provides a focus of intent and support for each person. “Weight Watchers gives meaning to members’ at times trauma-ridden overweight conditions; grants forgiveness for members weight loss failures; offers valued oversight and overarching guidance needed to make it through the trials and tribulations of the week, as well as casting the occasional weight-loss successes as a veneer of much needed glamour,” the authors wrote.
Here’s the best part. Furthermore,Weight Watchers when combined with an Exercise Program provides the best results!. Recent research at the University of Missouri discovered that Weight Watchers participants “stuck with an exercise program” while regular fitness center members, not enrolled in Weight Watchers quit after a short time. “Overweight sedentary women joining a fitness center with the intent of weight loss or body fat change will likely fail without support and without altering their diets” said Steve Ball, assistant professor of exercise physiology at the University of Missouri.
Keep the big three in mind when you go after weight or bodyfat loss. Get as much support around you as possible, make good choices and remember habits are gained on action at a time until it’s automatic.
Dedicated to Your Success,
Dave
