Sometimes I’m asked is there really is a secret formula for losing weight.
Well there truly is a formula, and it’s not really a secret.
It’s the same formula that causes the Accelerator Small Group Fitness programs and Rapid Results Fitness Camp to be able to consistently deliver rapid visible results to so many people.
Clients getting fat loss results where they’ve never gotten results before isn’t an accident.
It’s by design.
There’s a 7-step formula for weight loss success that we use and the best part is it will work for you too.
Unfortunately most people, “on their own”, willuse one or two of these steps. But an incomplete program leaves you struggling, and wondering why you’re “doing everything right” but not seeing results.
When you use this 7-step formula your success is virtually guaranteed.
Look at this formula and see how you can use it to help you reach your fat loss and fitness goals.
First you need to figure out exactly what it is you want, then everything else falls into place to support that vision.
1) Outcome Goals-
First You’ve got to know what you want. aND THE more clarity you have the better and faster your results will be.
You need to know where you are NOW and where you want to be.
For example:
“I currently weigh 190lb my goal is to weigh 140.”
“I currently am wearing a size 12 my goal is to wear a size 8.”
“I want a flatter stomach, toned up hip thighs and bottom and arms that stop moving when I do.”
These are clear and measurable goals.And it’s important to focus your language on what you do want not what you don’t want.
Next you have…
2) Process Goals-
These are the action sets that will help you achieve your outcome goals. for Example.
“I will work out with my coach at least twice per week.”
“I will attend boot camp workouts on Wednesday mornings.”
“I will log all of my food into MY Fitness Pal everyday and not exceed my calorie goal.”
By hitting your process goals, you’ll ultimately achieve your outcome goals.
3) Action-
All the “positive thinking” and goal setting in the world, will do you no good without action.
The #1 Rule For Success I tell my new clients is
to…
Show up.
That’s it.
Your very first action that assures success in my programs is to show up.
That’s the action..
And keep showing up. And let everything else will tend to fall into place.
And here’s a little politically incorrect truth that I used to find hard to explain but I realized it’s super important to understand…
Success comes in spurts.
You can very well work out like a fiend, have a diet that is spot on, work your butt off week in and week out…and still not see results.
And you keep working and working and working and nothing.
Then one morning you get up and you look different in the mirror, your pants are looser, and the scale finally budges in the right direction.
Success happens this way in every kind of endeavor.
Remember Success comes in spurts…
So how can you help yourself stick to your action plan and process goals through those inevitable tough times?
And the tough times, the bad food, the missed workouts can and will happen.
How do you safeguard yourself and your goals from sabotage, both internal and external?
I call them the 4 pillars of success. The four steps are accountability, social support, incentives and The Deadline.
4) Accountabilty-
Research shows that being accountable to an authority figure increases your chance of success. This might be me, in my programs, ot your doctor or pastor or your boss at work.
It can come from your friends and family as we’llĀ see in the 5th step.
5) Social Support-
This is HUGE! The more support you get the greater the likelihood and speed of your success.
You NEED to get around like minded people that want what you want to insure your success.
You CANNOT go it alone and expect success.
AND the more social support you get the better you’ll do. A friend is good, 2 friends is better, a coworker that you see everyday works better, and family members and spouses are the top tier of support.
The more layers, the better your chances.
And online support has been proven to be justas effective as in person support.
6) Incentives-
There are two ways to put Incentives into your success Formula.
You can use the carrot or the stick.
With the Carrot you reward your self, or get rewarded for “right action”.
Like when Challenge Contest winners win $300 cash or a Year of VIP Boot Camp. These are “carrots” rewarded for right action.
Or maybe you’re motivated by avoiding the negative consequences of NOT taking the right action.
For example you could decide to donate $10 to a charity you DO NOT Support. Every time you miss a planned workout.
That’s using the stick approach.
Both work equally well, you just have to test out what works best for you.
And finally the last step to our success formula.
7) The Deadline-
All kinds of good things happen when you have a deadline to get things done by.
If you don’t have a deadline though, you WILL procrastinate.
If our outcome goal is yo lose 10lbs of fat and it drags on and on without success, we must say “I’m going to lose 10lbs on the scale by July 4th 2013” and then make this public to our accountability partners and Social support while attaching incentives to it.
When you do all these things I guarantee you’ll be 10lbs lighter by July 4th.
That’s the power of the Four Pillars of Success. they make you take action, stick to your process goals, and achieve EXACTLY what you want in life.
Put it all together and you’ve got a formula for success.
